Life Moved Along
He’d pull me up onto his lap and he shook my soul with his belly laugh
Grandpa use to say to me ‘Don’t forget who you are’ as I sat on his knee
He’d tell me a story of when he was younger about all his kin and livin’ with hunger
He’d say: ‘Boy, in my day, without any money, we had hard work and heart, lemme tell you, Sonny’
CHORUS
We lived in a world where your word was your bond
On Sunday’s we’d gather down at the pond
Fried chicken and horseshoes and corn on the cob
We’d settle all matters
And life moved along
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
When my brother Timmy would happen along, and Grandpa would teach us the right from the wrong
He’d tell us both stories, we’d laugh all night long, he’s say: ‘Boys, don’t forget where it is you come from”
Now Grandpa was older and we knew we should listen, but we couldn’t sit still when the fireflies were kissin’
I remember he’d laugh as we jumped from the porch, we’d wave back as we ran, I still hear his retort
Now I fondly look back on those days in the country, with smells of the farm and my time on his knee
With that great belly laugh and the stories he told, and times with my brother before we grew cold
As I watch my own kids grow in pics on my desk, I think of those times and ol’ Grandpa’s request
So I tell them the stories of where they come from, and the family lives on although Grandpa is gone…
CHORUS
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
