It’s Not About Me
I’m just a simple fella
I have basic jobs to do
My work is hard, but I will always see it thru
But noone ever says to me
“You are the best, my friend!”
I long for their acceptance and their praise
Now here’s a different task
Something big is planned today
We’re goin to the city for the holiday
But now they’re throwin’ flowers at my feet
And cheerin’ just for me
It looks like I’m the Hero of the Day!
CHORUS
But it’s not about me
It’s not about me
I’m startin’ to see it’s all about Jesus workin’ thru me
It’s by his power and his choice
I must listen to his voice
Cuz he’s the one they need to see
It’s not about me
Well, all this adulation, I can hardly take it in
“Why thanks…you really shouldn’t have…and thanks again!”
But I’m not haulin’ packs today
There’s someone on my back
Could all this grand excitement be for him?
CHORUS
After the embarrassment has faded from my mind
I start to see that, really, I will be just fine
Although the cheers were not for me
This day will live in history
This Jesus that they cheered for
They laid their palms before him
He rode into the city on my back!
CHORUS
Words and music
